Rearing rooms
One of the more interesting parts of our museum is the one you'll never get a chance to see - the Insectarium rearing rooms!
Some of the animals we have here at the Insectarium could be pretty dangerous if they ever escaped, and others would pose a major threat to farmers' crops or to our neighbors' homes if we ever let them out! Also, a lot of bugs are just plain hard to get, and so we work very hard each day to keep the colonies alive. That means giving every insect just what it needs. Walking sticks from the rain forest need to think they are still living in a tropical paradise, while Wandering Leaves need fresh Pyrocantha branches nearly every day to eat. And we are always on the lookout for a new egg in the Dynastes Beetle tank, so we can take it in the back and help it grow into a big green beetle.
A lot of science goes into maintaining our animals, and it just wouldn't be fair if we didn't show you some of the hard work that our curator, our biologist, and all the various lab assistants are doing every day to ensure a fun-filled, fantastic tour for our young friends to enjoy.
